Founded in 1976, the Department of Dentistry at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) offers a six-year professional dental program that integrates strong foundations in biomedical sciences with comprehensive clinical training. The establishment of the Graduate Institute of Clinical Dentistry and the Graduate Institute of Oral Biology further strengthened the Department’s commitment to advanced education and research, leading to the formal establishment of the College of Dentistry in 2000.

For over four decades, the Department has cultivated dental professionals with clinical excellence, independent thinking, and a strong sense of social responsibility. With more than 1,000 graduates, NYCU Dentistry alumni are widely recognized for their outstanding performance in national licensing examinations and their leadership roles in clinical practice, academic institutions, and professional organizations. Many alumni have also pursued doctoral training at leading universities worldwide, contributing to cutting-edge research in oral biology, biomaterials, and digital dentistry.

NYCU Dentistry is supported by a distinguished faculty, all holding doctoral degrees from top domestic and international universities, alongside experienced clinician-educators from major medical centers. The curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, bridging dentistry with engineering, information science, artificial intelligence, and digital healthcare.

Students benefit from extensive clinical training at Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospitals, among Taiwan’s most prestigious medical centers. In parallel, the Department maintains active research programs in implant dentistry, oral biomaterials, tissue engineering, periodontal regeneration, and oral cancer research, providing students with opportunities to engage in both clinical and scientific advancement.
